The fire station was originally used as a milking parlour/barn, connected with Sun Farm (which now no longer exists). The County Council leased the building in 1959 when it was made into the local fire station and has continued to be in service until last year when the local fire service moved into their new building on the outskirts of Bootle.

Travelling along the A590 in a westerly direction, continue to Newby Bridge and take the first exit keeping on the A590 until Greenodd. At Greenodd take the second exit onto the A5092 passing through Lowick and Foxfield, joining the A595 at Grizebeck, head over the Duddon Bridge and continue to Silecroft taking the right turn at Valley End.
