Two delightful native woodlands of high biodiversity and amenity value located in the Western Lakes.
LOT 1: Rookery Wood, opposite the Lodge 3.75 acres - £15,000 - SOLD
LOT 2: Chapelholme Wood and Brigholme Wood 17.04 acres - £45,000

Calder Valley Woods are part of a much larger area of woodland which flank the River Calder and have been owned by the vendors since 1969 following a Tree Preservation Order being declared to prevent unauthorized timber felling. Historically nature conservation has been the prime objective and the lush carpets of woodrush, dense patches of bilberry and in the spring fantastic displays of bluebells and wild garlic go a long way to proving this.
The Private Treaty sale of these woodlands presents a rare opportunity to purchase an idyllic Lake District woodland rich in flora and fauna.

Grid Reference : NY050066

Rookery Wood is a native broadleaf wood with a mixture of mature woodland, well established planted trees and natural regeneration. The property benefits from good roadside access and is southwards facing. The upper part of the wood are mature oak and sycamore with occasional common lime. The lower part is a young plantation of mixed native broadleaves including oak, ash, wild cherry and hazel. Pest control has removed most of the Rhododendron however, there are a number of scattered bushes and a small amount of Cherry Laurel is present by the roadside.

The wood benefits from good roadside access and includes a parking area. To the rear of the parking area is a former sandstone quarry that is abundant with ferns and bryophytes.

Brigholme wood and Crake Nest are located adjacent to Chapelholme and can be accessed from the hard core track leading through the aforementioned property, the track also serving as access to a neighboring field and part forms the footpath leading through lot 2. The woods predominantly consist of oak-birch woodland with a good understorey of hazel, holly and occasional ash. Greater woodrush is abundant and dominates along with bluebells and ferns.
